Ninegates Farm is an equine training centre owned and operated by Julie Blanchard set in 15.5 acres (with access to a further 45 acres grazing land) of exceptional and tranquil surroundings in East Yorkshire where all of our horses benefit from 24 hour care and superb facilities.
A knowledgable horsewoman Julie is a British Dressage Pyramid & National 2* Trainer as well as being a certified BHS AI & Intermediate Stable Manager with many years of experience riding horses from youngsters through to Prix St George level dressage. Teaching is also a huge passion and she spends most afternoons and evenings with clients who benefit from her years training with Jennie Loriston-Clarke, Ian Woodhead, Hannah Esberger & Laura Fry.
Julie considers Paul Kathen of Tex-Over Farms in the USA as her greatest mentor. Paul’s speciality is helping amateur riders get the most from their relationship with their horses, whether they enjoy competition or ride simply for the joy of the sport and this is something that Julie strives to achieve with all her pupils. A native German Paul’s own training has been through the German system where he has earned bronze and silver medals from the German Federation Equestre Nationale for riding and teaching expertise in dressage and jumping.
You can benefit from training on site at Ninegates (Julie is also available to travel to your yard for private and/or group lessons) to improve your partnership whatever discipline you ride (Eventing, Show Jumping, Dressage, Showing or just for pleasure). Riders range from grass root riders through to top class competition riders.
With a great team behind her at Ninegates Farm Julie is able to take horses for competition, schooling, handling, breaking, jumping and sales preparation. Your horse will be produced in a sympathetic way so that you are able to continue his training at home. Horses and ponies are for sale and a selection may be viewed on our Horses For Sale page.

In 2009 Julie was graded as a Grade IV Para Equestrian which enables her to compete in FEI Para Dressage competitions on a National and International basis. She has been very successful so far with a few different horses and 2010 was also a fantastic year with a lot of great results.
Riding Ucaro (owned by Alicia Hobden) Julie was the 2010 Grade IV Restricted spring champion at Vale View. She won again at the Grade IV summer championships with 1st place on Ucaro and 2nd place on Tony Blanchard's Dark Surprise. At her first International competition held at Hartpury College in July 2010 she was 4th in the Grade IV Open class riding Ucaro.
Para-Equestrian Dressage is the only Equestrian discipline that is included in the Paralympic Games, where it has been a regular fixture since 1996. With the idea of creating opportunities for all people with disabilities to compete and achieve their goals in equestrian sport, athletes are classified according to the level of their disability/impairment so as to provide for meaningful competition. In 2006, the Para-Equestrian sport joined the ranks of the other 7 disciplines regulated by the FEI, with national and international competitions for Dressage and Driving for individuals with a disability. This led to the FEI becoming the first, and still the only, International Federation to govern and regulate a sport for both the able bodied and disabled athletes.
